If I'm being honest, I have never really had a huge desire to go to South America. Mainly becuase I don't know much about it but also because I understand that it can be fairly dangerous in parts. I tested myself to do a 'Guess the Country' quiz on South America and I scored 2... This was shocking. I forced myself to research more into the countries and culture of South America and what it had to offer. A few of my friends have been and adored it - so I was intrigued to see what the fuss was about. The more I learnt, the more I loved.

My boyfriend, Jon, was exceptionally keen on the idea of South America. He has always wanted to go there. After speaking to a close friend of mine, he informed me that travelling round just the two of us might pose some risks. He said not to worry - and that things would most likely be fine, but I'm not taking I any chances.

I began to look up group tours on STA Travel etc, but wasn't having much luck. I wanted something that went to a least six countries and was at least 60 days long. I know doing a group tour would almost 100% put the price up - but I don't mind this, if it increases our chance of keeping safe. Also as they tours are lead by people who know each country like the back of their hand - I knew I'd see the best parts.

I'm sort of in the process of planing it now - however as it is so far in the future, it is difficult to tell where myself or Jon will be. I'm hoping to save up around £4,000 for South America and I've given myself 9 months to do so - so we should be okay!
